Health Systems & Labs
Close the gap from order to result.
Testing succeeds or fails in the handoffs: biopsy to pathology, pathology to lab, lab to the chart. Systems that own those handoffs get results back in time.
Where patients fall out
For every 100 patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer who could benefit from precision medicine, about 64 have a biomarker test ordered, about 52 get a usable result, and about 36 receive the matched treatment.
Each step is a handoff between departments, labs and payers, and each handoff is a place a system can fix.

For systems and labs
- Set up reflex testing so pathology starts guideline-recommended testing at diagnosis.
- Protect the sample with tissue-handling standards that leave enough for comprehensive testing.
- Assign ownership: a navigator or coordinator who tracks every order to a result.
- Put results where clinicians look, as structured data in the EHR, not a scanned PDF.
- Clear the payment path early with prior authorization and financial counseling at the time of order.
- Measure turnaround and completeness, and share it with care teams every month.
